Gas Detection in Power Plants.

ALVI  Automation – India (http://www.alviautomation.com)  in association with Gas Alarm Systems – Australia (http://www.gasalarm.co.au) offer  Gas Detection  Sensor Systems in Power Plants.

A power plant can be of several types depending mainly on the type of fuel used. These fuel sources are burned to produce electricity through turbines or engines . Regardless of what type of fuel used, gas, fire and other hazards pose a significant risk to the plant and employee safety . Gas Detection in power plants is essential to enhance personal safety and minimize the risk of fire.

Potential hazardous gases:

Methane and Carbon Monoxide: The coal conveyers into the plant accumulate coal dust, which is highly combustible. Coal produces methane (CH4) and carbon monoxide (CO), which can accumulate to hazardous concentrations in confined spaces. Such places should not only have toxic gas monitoring, but should even be reinforced with oxygen deficiency monitors to safeguard the quality of air for employees.

Hydrogen : Power plants utilize hydrogen as a coolant in quite a few areas of operation. Being highly combustible, hydrogen leaks could be fatal as they can cause explosions and fires, potentially causing loss of life and destruction to plant. A hydrogen leak need not only cause damage by combustion, its absence can also cause extensive damage to the machinery as a result of overheating.

Ammonia: Ammonia (NH3) is used in the coal burning process to remove nitrogen oxides that are produced during combustion. Ammonia is classified as extremely hazardous substance and hence ammonia should be handled and used safely.

Others: Many other power plant operations may need personnel protection system against few other harmful gases such as CO2, CL2, ClO2, HCl, NO2, O3, SO2 and SO3.

The major safety risks in power plants can be addressed by installing a fixed gas detection system . Gas Detection in power plants provides a preventive measure that increases the productivity of these plants.

Why choose us?

Keeping breweries safe by monitoring carbon dioxide

The majority of Carbon Dioxide gas in beverage industry is used during carbonating process.  It is also used in fermentation and refrigeration.

During the bottling process a high volume of Carbon Dioxide can be emitted into the plant room. Also during transport or storage of Carbon Dioxide, there is always a risk of unnoticed gas leakage.

Exposure to elevated levels of CO2 can cause headaches, drowsiness or even sudden death. Hence facilities where there is a possibility of Carbon Dioxide reaching to the dangerous level, an accurate and reliable CO2 control system should be installed to maintain a healthy work-place.

Carbon Dioxide is also released during fermentation process. To achieve and maintain high operational safety the level of CO2 should be monitored and controlled in fermentation rooms.

At GasAlarm we offer innovative sensors and controllers to identify and immediately display the life threatening CO2 gas. These products are based on years of experience and were compiled with a lot of know-how and tailored to individual customer application.

Hydrogen Sulphide emission monitors Sensor Transmitter

H2S or Hydrogen Sulphide is the main factor in odour emission in waste water and sewerage treatment plants. H2S is a toxic and flammable gas that has an odour of rotten eggs and is a key cause of odour. H2S scrubbers are based primarily on activated charcoal or carbon and are widely used.

To monitor the operation and efficiency of these scrubbers, H2S is monitored at the inlet and outlet side with a hydrogen sulphide emission monitor. The inlet side will generally have higher PPM concentration of H2S while the outlet side will typically have NIL or very low concentration of H2S in the H2S filters or scrubbers.

For continuous emissions monitoring an ADT 53 1197 hydrogen monitor from ALVI India can be used in the inlet and outlet side.

The Hydrogen Sulphide emission monitor works on 24 VDC, 2 wire and gives out 4-20 mA output and comes in ranges 0-50 ppm H2S, 0-200 ppm H2S, 0-1000 ppm H2S or 0-5000 ppm H2S.

Hydrogen sulphide emission monitors are supplied with an in-line sampling kit. The 4-20 mA output can be connected to a MGC-03 gas controller for concentration readout, 4-20 mA output for PLC, SCADA and to generate alarms signifying filter or scrubber breakthrough or saturation.
